On Wednesday, November 5th, S.O.B.'s presents a night of soulful R&Bsounds with ANTHONY
DAVID and Grammy-nominated
songstress EMILY KING. Anthony David's latest album, Acey Duecy -- released earlier this year on India.Arie's Soul Bird Music label-- was
lauded by fans and critics alike, but David may have received
his greatest props this week when future First Lady hopeful,
Michelle Obama, cited him as on of her current favorite artists
in an interview with Marie Claire. Joining on David on November
5th is fast-rising singer/songwriter EMILY KING, who had had
a stellar 2007, earning a Grammy nomination for "Best
Contemporary R&B Album" for her debut effort East
Side Story (J Records).
Anthony David is half bluesman, half soul singer, but he was actually raised on hip-hop. After serving
with the 82nd Airborne, the Desert Storm veteran picked up
the guitar for the first time at age twenty-one, when he landed
in Atlanta following his military stint. At the same time,
he met Grammy-winning artist India.Arie, who has become a friend
and a musical cohort. After her Acoustic Soul album -- which
includes "A Part of My Life," written by David --
went double platinum and garnered seven Grammy nominations,
he followed her on tour, released two independent albums of
his own, and then became the first artist signed to Arie's
new label, Soulbird.
Excerpt from Marie Claire Interview with
Michelle Obama: MC: So, what’s on your iPod? MO: I have
a pretty eclectic mix of everything, from Beyoncé to
Stevie Wonder. He’s my favorite artist of all time, so
I probably have every song he’s ever recorded. But if
I hear something I like somewhere, I’ll add it. I just
heard this CD by Anthony David, who’s an R&B guy — I
put him on there. That’s brand new, so I’m kind
of enjoying that a lot now.
On Wednesday, November 5th, Anthony
David, a true Neo-Soul talent, brings the works of his new
album Acey Duecy to the S.O.B.'s stage. With a spectacular
special guest like Emily King, the night promises to be one
to remember for all R&B and soul music fans.
