Monday March 17th, S.O.B.'s Presents ZIZEK, Argentina's leading
producers of Digital Cumbia, Glitch Folk, Electro Reggaeton
Mashups.
In just a year's time, Zizek has become the most innovative
and popular party in Buenos Aires with producers coming out
of the woodwork eager for a new space to showcase their talent
and wares in South America. Buenos Aires has returned to its
roots. Its inspirations come from places like Mexico, Colombia,
Peru, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and in the outskirts of Buenos
Aires.
Zizek is about emerging Hip Hop, Dancehall, Cumbia,
and Reggaetón sounds and their respective variations:
Grime, Crunk, Bastard Pop and Mashups. The idea is to give
these styles, ideas and rhythms an Argentine touch, with the
aim of putting Buenos Aires on the map of the global music
scene. The star of Zizek has been Cumbia, a Latin American
sound born from the fusion of old and new worlds in Colombia
that has been long looked down on as dance music for the lower
classes in Argentina. Its distinctly syncretic roots promote
robust adaptability and cumbia is being transformed by avant-garde
musicians and producers from the USA all the way down to Argentina.
Diplo has become an avid supporter of the collective and the
party has made fans of The New York Times.
"No wonder
Argentina's largest newspaper, had nominated Zizek as one of
the best parties of the year-it was awesome."– New
York Times
"I suggest you go see Zizek if you are ever
in Buenos Aires on a Wednesday Night, It's a Movement!" – Diplo
Also joining them on stage will be New York's own leaders of
Spanish-sung alternative rock & pop parties, NACOTHEQUE.
Stemming from the basement of a small club in the Lower East
Side of Manhattan, NACOTHEQUE's DJs, Amylu and Marcelo Cunning,
have built one of New York City's most popular parties from
various local and international media like Paper Magazine,
Village Voice, Guanabee.com, Nyremezcla.com, and various Mexican
and Spanish Newspapers.
