Sugar Minott, veteran singer, songwriter, musician and producer from
Kingston, Jamaica (born Lincoln Barrington Minott) has been a driving
force in pioneering the creation of reggae music.
He was one of the originators of the dance hall parties and broke
well-known acts Bounty Killer and Buju Banton. Sugar has attained
international notoriety is also credited with the development of
Lovers Rock by the release of his album Music For Roots Lovers which
became an instant success with his English audience. Following this
he had a hit Good Things Going (a Jackson 5 cover) that went to #2
on the British charts. While Sugar was in England he continued to
develop the Youth Promotion Crew foundation and formed the Black
Roots Players and is responsible for discovering the group Musical
Youth. He also did work with Carl Thompson and Bertie Grant, the
engineer of UB40.
Trumystic is a six-piece band. The creative collaboration of two
main forces: Soothsayer has the smooth flow of smoke on a cloudless
night, streams of dub consciousness on the bass
as well as the mic. Kirsty Rock slices through the melodies like
electricity on water. Both her lyrics and her vocals range from the
sweet melody of angels to the cynicism of sinners, touching
everywhere in between. Their live sound is rooted in the sounds of
Antoinette blessing the keys , QBrain with the heavy skank and soundscape,
and Stephan locking down the rhythm section. Together they bring
the boom to sonic boom as they tear the roof off the room- dub style.
